MAP/BROCHURE INFORMATION DESIGN

Way-finding in design refers to information systems that guide people through a physical environment and enhance their understanding and experience of the space. As architectural environments become more complicated, people need visual cues such as maps, directions, and symbols to help guide them to their destinations.

A way-finding system was developed for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games in 2022 which includes a campus map that shows the venue and a macro map that shows a broader area of the city. The main goal for this project was to create a simple yet effective map that give the audience a sense of security.

The final logo for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics depicts an image of a dragon that has the olympic rings infused its body. The dragon was drawn with a brush stroke that was inspired from the traditional Chinese calligraphy writing. The dragon represents strength and power in the Chinese culture which was appropriate to use to represent the Olympic Games. The colors that were chosen is heavily inspired by the infamous Chinese lantern festivals. These set of colors that are rich/bold colors that complement each other creating a visual harmony. The brochure is an accordion fold brochure with five pages so that the audience can manipulate the way they fold the brochure easily. The back of the brochure includes all the variation of the logo with the different colors almost as a souvenir product. Each square has a different colored logo and it can even be cut up and kept individually.
